Hi Guys,

I;d be happy to beta test. I'd just bought exactly one of these lasers, and found that you guys are doing an mbed controller for it by coincidence!

Any questions, please shout!

Thanks,
Chris

My LAOS beta PCB arrived today - looks spiffy.

Cheers for the sticker too - my machine is now proudly sporting the LAOS logo.

I'll keep you updated on my progress with it.

Of course, we ship (bare PCB's) to China too. Send us a mail for shipping details (info -AT- laoslaser.org).

Our boards are 100% open hardware, so if you're in a position to convince laser producing companies to copy them and put them in the lasers before they ship, we would welcome it!

Would love to be a beta tester.

Can you ship to China? Ironic, isn't it... ;)
Looking forward to a reply.

Cheers for the email - as mentioned, I'm interested and I should be up for one next week.

Not quite sure how I'm going to end up mounting the board in my laser cutter though due to the positioning of the SD card really being on the wrong side for me...
I might be able to mount the pcb slightly higher up so I can still get to the SD card or I might extend the SD card to another board mounted somewhere else for easy access.
I've got a few ideas for the next revision already.

I had a look for a LAOS IRC room and couldn't find one - perhaps #laos on freenode is a good bet - I'm sitting in there if you want to join me ;)

Hi Rob,

I just received 20 pcb's that we ordered for beta-testing. If you would like to join the project, I can send you one for € 20 (plus shipping).
The parts will cost about 70-100 euros, mostly depending on the price of the connectors you choose. With our board, you should be able to run any laser. The software is still in development, but you can use it to do cutting or vector-marking. Bitmap marking is on it's way.

To learn more, read the wiki pages and check out the SVN repository for drawings of the circuit board and for the software.

Most important:
Current status: <a href="http://wiki.laoslaser.org/index.php/Roadmap" rel="nofollow">http://wiki.laoslaser.org/index.php/Roadmap
</a>
Soldering howto for the pcb: <a href="http://wiki.laoslaser.org/index.php/Mainboard_Rev2" rel="nofollow">http://wiki.laoslaser.org/index.php/Mainboard_Rev2</a>

I've been watching LAOS with interest after buying my own laser cutter a few weeks back (see thread: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/laser_engraving_cutting_machines/138554-cheap_laser_cutter_modifications.html). I'm currently enlarging the bed and doing many other modifications. Might actually cut something with it soon.

Just wondering how one might become a beta tester? :)
I have a good knowledge of the Arduino/Wiring code environment and have many ideas for an arduino based interface with sensor interfacing etc. (currently working on one with a 40x4 LCD for my laser cutter).
I can't say I'd be able to be much help with the driver/main control system but I'd love to do some control panel stuff and general testing on my laser cutter.

You guys are doing a great job anyway - this is exactly what the cheap laser cutters need (and some of the more expensive ones!) and it'll be fantastic when it's finished.

No Problem: It is open source! The electrical design is prepared for 3D printing (4 axis). The software is not. You may have to do some work there! Other projects (like r2c2 and reprap) are more focussed on 3D printing.
